Pickup was a Chicago startup for a location-based sports app where I served as the UX/UI Consultant and overall graphic designer. Pickup was designed to provide users with an easy way to organize pick up sports games with local users via geolocation, and organize them into difficulty levels by a peer rating system. I worked closely with the founders to design a cohesive end-to-end experience and created assets they would have used to market their idea to angel investors and seed capital.
One of the central components of the wireframe that I really wanted to integrate was the ball menu idea. I disliked the concept of making users have to stretch their thumb up to the top left corner of the screen to access information, so I opted for a "double home button" concept, kind of like how Tatooine has two moons. The ball menu would correspond to whatever sport the user had marked as their favorite. However, due to constraints, this idea was scrapped early on.
Unfortunately, the app would never be completed or launched due to internal issues, so I continued with my studies. These are a few of the semi-finalized screens I had designed for the app before they folded. Due to the lean nature of the process, I didn't have time to redesign much, nor plan and execute the IA phase beforehand, causing the overall experience to lack certain key elements that could have potentially saved the project.
I look back on Pickup as a learning experience and a solemn reminder to trust the process, even if it means extra time.
